Danon joins
BT as retail head
London: British Telecommunications said on Friday that it had appointed
Pierre Danon, former president of Xerox Europe, to head its retail division.
Mr Danon will join BT, where he will report to the chief
executive, Sir Peter Bonfield, from October 4. Mr Danon spent 19 years at Xerox, where he
was responsible for the company's $5.3bn European operations and led the worldwide
strategy committee.
His position at Xerox Europe will be taken by Jean-Noel
Machon, a 24-year Xerox veteran. Mr Machon moves from being president of Xerox's General
Market Operations Europe and North American agents.
British Telecom had announced the formation of BT Retail
in April as a part of restructuring exercise undertaken by the company. It had said it
wanted to increase shareholder value by exposing to the market some areas of its business
that it believed were undervalued.
The company said it would separate its UK fixed line
telephony business into wholesale and retail. BT said on Friday that the new retail line
of business would have 10bn ($14.11bn) in revenues and more than 24m customers.
