India hand in Unilever management
restructuring
Mumbai: In a recent management restructuring move that
grabbed corporate headlines, several Indian executives have been appointed in key
positions at the Unilever group.
The most celebrated among them is Mr. Keki
Dadiseth, former chairman of Hindustan Lever Limited, who has now been named head of the
newly created home and personal care division. Additionally, Mr. Nitin Paranjpe, earlier
head of HLL in Chennai and part of the special team under Mr. Dadiseth, which implemented
the "Project Millenium" at the Indian entity, has been appointed special
executive advisor to Niall Fitzgerald, chairman of Unilever, in London. Mr. Paranjpe was
also part of Mr. Dadiseths team in London working on the management restructuring of
Unilever plc.
Earlier, Unilever had announced the splitting
of the company into two major divisions, one for foods and the other for home and personal
care products.
Mr. Patrick Cescau, currently
financial director, will become foods director, effective from January 1, 2001. Until that
time he will lead the planning of the integration with Bestfoods and take immediate
responsibility for Unilever's North American foods operations.
Mr. Keki Dadiseth will become home &
personal care director with responsibility for HPC worldwide including DiverseyLever,
effective January 1, 2001. Until that time he will focus on preparing plans for the
implementation of the new structure.
Mr. Rudy Markham, currently strategy
and technology director, has become financial director with immediate effect while
retaining responsibility for information technology.

Salomon Smith
Barney names vice chairman
New York: Salomon Smith Barney, the New York-based
securities group, announced that Mr. Jay Mandelbaum, who was head of private client sales
and marketing, will take over as vice chairman and chief executive of its newly-created
global private client group. This new group has been created to give financial advice to
affluent investors world-wide.
Mr. Mandelbaum is also a member of the
Citigroup Global Corporate and investment bank operating committee.
Mr. Mandelbaum joined Primerica in 1992 as
vice president of corporate development. Prior to joining the company, he spent six years
at McKinsey & Company.
