Swissair chief executive quits
Geneva: In a move that has surprised financial analysts, the American chief
executive officer of the Swiss national airline, Swissair, Mr. Jeffrey Katz submitted his
resignation. The departure of Mr. Katz, after three years of service with the airline, has
left analysts wondering whether there was a power struggle on at the airline. Some
analysts fear that his departure would cause uncertainty among investors about the
airlines future.
Mr. Philippe Bruggisser, the chief executive of parent company SAirGroup who has
traditionally been very active in Swissair's business, will assume Katz's
responsibilities.
Mr. Katz has been credited for bringing in a lot of American culture into the airline in
terms of yield management, marketing, making changes at the airline which met the demands
of the times. Besides emphasising on the need for excellent service, he is also said to
have added a more international worldview to the airline.
