Poonawalla and Tetra members step down from Alfa
Laval board
Pune: As a prelude to the divestment by the Tetra Laval groups in the Alfa
Laval group, Ms. Lila Poonawalla, who was heading Alfa Laval (India) as chairperson for
the past four years and as managing director from 1987, has stepped down as chairperson of
Alfa Laval (India) in favour of Jos Bellinkx on Monday, at the companys annual
general meeting held here.
Ms. Poonawalla will, however, continue to serve as chairperson on the boards of Tetra
Laval Group companies Tetra Pak India and DeLaval.
Besides Poonawalla, two other members Mr. Goran Grosskopf, chairman of Tetra Laval
Group, and Mr. Bo Wirsen, president and chief executive officer of Tetra Pak (Asia region)
-- have left the Alfa Laval (India) board.
Instead, Mr. Yannick Richomme, executive vice-president,
Alfa Laval group and president for business area separation, along with Mr. Peter
Leifland, executive vice-president, Alfa Laval Group, have come on board Alfa Laval
(India) with effect from Monday.

Trai gets new full time chief
in Justice SC Sen
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act,
1997, which was amended by the TRAI (amendment) Act, 2000 to set up a tribunal for dispute
settlement and appeals, has finally got a new chief.
Justice S. C. Sen has been appointed the full-time
chairperson of this body, for a period of three years from the date or until he attains
the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
Earlier, TRAI had powers to settle the disputes between two or more service providers,
between a service provider and group of consumers and against the TRAI. Appeals against
the orders of the appellate tribunal shall lie to the supreme court

Government appoints new
chiefs for CBDT and CBEC
New Delhi: The central government today effected major changes in the economic
departments and appointed Mr. A Balasubramaniam as chairman of central board of direct
taxes (CBDT) and Mr. B.P. Verma as chairman of central board of excise and customs (CBEC).
They replace Mr. S.K. Nigam and Mr. S.D Mohile, respectively, who are retiring on May 31.
Further, Mr. A.M. Prasad, member CBEC, has been appointed director general of central
economic intelligence bureau (CEIB) in place of Mr. B.P. Verma. Mr. Prasads place at
the CBEC has been taken by Mr. A.K. Pandey.
Besides the above changes, Mr. GS Sidhu has been made
chairman of the settlement commission, Mr. P Radhakrishnan and Mr. N.C. Jain have been
appointed vice chairmen.

Piramal reshuffles its top brass
Mumbai: Indias most aggressive pharma company, Nicholas Piramal, has made some
changes in its top management. Current chief executive officer, Mr. Francis Pinto will
hand over day-to-day administration of the pharmaceutical business to Mr. Vijay Shah,
former Gujarat Glass, another group company. Mr. Shah has been designated as chief
operating officer of the pharma company.
Mr. Pinto, who would retain the designation of CEO,
would henceforth look at international businesses including implementing acquisitions of
companies in the US, Europe and Asia. He will oversee activities relating to the proposed
American Depository Receipts (ADR) to be issued by the company later this year.
Besides this, the company's chief financial officer, Mr.
Mahesh Gupta, has been elevated to the board of directors.
As a result of these changes, Mr. Asit Chawla, president (operations) is tipped to take
over from Mr. Shah as managing director of Gujarat Glass.
The restructuring will also increase the responsibilities of Ms. Swati Piramal, wife of
chairman Mr. Ajay Piramal, and also director on pharma companys board. Ms. Piramal,
who has until now focussed solely on research & development, will get involved in
other operational areas, including activities of the entertainment mall Crossroads owned
by another Piramal company, Piramal Holdings.
