BSE sensex to get new look
Mumbai: The governing board of the Bombay Stock Exchange approved a change in the
constitution of the 30-share sensex that will come into operation from today. Old economy
stocks from the power, hospitality, chemicals and finance sectors are giving way to four
new companies, in the index.
The newcomers include Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Zee
Telefilms, Satyam Computers and Reliance Petroleum, which will replace Industrial
Development Bank of India, Tata Power, Tata Chemicals and Indian Hotels.
As a result of this change, the market capitalisation is
expected to see a spurt of 35 to 40 per cent over the Friday level of Rs. 292,807 crore.
Apart from the change in the sensex itself, corporate
developments are also likely to influence the upward surge in the market cap. The board of
directors of Zee Telefilms is meeting to finalise the ADR issue, which is to be the
country's largest ever ADR issue. With financial results from Infosys and Satyam, both of
whom have done well, due to be released and the Nasdaq, with whose movement the sensex has
come to be linked, the overall performance of the stock markets in the coming week is to
be good.
