Markets listless, sensex
gain marginal
Mumbai: Continuing the consolidation phase, the trading in the stock markets continued
to be listless. As a result of this the indices for the BSE and the NSE hardly saw any
major movement.
The BSE sensex closed the day at 5,156 points a mere
10 points higher than its previous close, while the NSE Nifty closed the day at 1,568
points just 6 points higher than its previous close.
While select infotech scrips continued to rise, the
Reliance scrip was the star of the day and a sharp rally in this scrip saw the stock
hitting the upper circuit.
Of the 139 scrips traded in the forward group on the BSE,
there were 82 gainers and 53 losers. On the B1 and B2 groups on the BSE, there were 404
and 326 gainers as compared to 523 and 390 losers.
On the NSE, of the total 1,911 stocks traded, there were
1,009 gainers and 769 losers.
Aggregate volumes on both exchanges were higher on Tuesday
as compared to the trade volumes on Monday.
