Robert Eaton to retire
from DaimlerChrysler
Auburn Hills: Robert Eaton, who drove a stagnant Chrysler, the US
automaker into revival mode and pioneered its merger into DaimlerChrysler, is retiring as
co-chairman of the car company in March 2000. He says his decision was already known --
that he would go once the merger was complete.
A hands-on manager with an engineering background, Mr
Eaton plans to pursue his personal interests off-road motorcycling. His present job
contract forbids him from taking up another assignment in the auto sector. Mr Eaton
joined Chrysler in 1992 as vice-chairman and chief operating officer and replaced Lee
Iacocca as chairman and CEO in 1993. He was earlier with General Motors.
