No extension for Anil Baijal
New Delhi: The appointments committee of the cabinet has turned down a
proposal by the civil aviation ministry to give a three-year extension to Indian
Airlines managing director Anil Baijal. Mr Baijals tenure comes to an end on
27 May 2000.

Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India has appointed six
public representatives on the board of the Inter-connected Stock Exchange of India for
1999-2000. They are M.R. Mayya, former executive director of the Bombay Stock Exchange,
P.C. Nayak, IAS, Prasanna Chandra, former professor at the Indian Institute of
Management, Bangalore, Justice A.D. Tated, Dr. K.R.Chandratre and Ajay Thakkar.

Sykes to be chairman of
Glaxo SmithKline
London: Glaxo Wellcomes chairman Richard Sykes will assume the
position of non-executive chairman of the merged Glaxo SmithKline, while Jean-Pierre
Garnier, at present No 2 at SmithKline Beecham, will be the chief executive of the
company. These positions were agreed at the merger meeting between the executives of the
two companies. Glaxos John Coombe will be finance director and SmithKlines
Tadataka Yamada, head of research, Robert Ingram, currently Glaxos chief executive,
will become the chief operating officer and president of pharmaceuticals, while
Glaxos head of research and development, James Niedel will be the chief science and
technology officer.
