Mumbai: D.N. Basu, general manager (operations), State Bank of Bikaner
and Jaipur, has been promoted as chief general manager of the bank. He joined the bank as
a probationary officer in 1963, and also worked with the State Bank of Patiala and State
Bank of Saurashtra.

PNB chief goes on leave
New Delhi: Punjab National Bank chairman and managing director Rashid
Jilani has proceeded on long leave. Mr Jilani has been under a cloud following accusations
of corruption against him by the banks trade unions. A first information report has
been filed against him with the Central Bureau of Investigations .
Mr Gilanis term of office was to end on 6 March
2000.

Gates steps down,
inducts colleague as CEO
Los Angeles: Bill Gates has announced that he is handing over the reins
of Microsoft Corporation, the company he co-founded and made the worlds largest
software company, to his No 2, Steve Ballmer. Mr Ballmer will now be the chief executive
officer. Mr Gates, who has been the companys chief executive since its birth some 25
years ago, said he will continue to be chairman of the company. He will also designate
himself chief software architect, and guide the companys strategy in the Internet
age. Mr Gates told a press conference that the decision will enable him to dedicate
himself full time to building great software and strategising for the future.

Baan executive quits
Netherlands: Business software firm Baan has lost its chief financial
officer James Mooney. Mr Mooney has resigned just 10 days after the companys chief
executive Mary Coleman left. Baan, ranked Europes No2 maker of ERP software behind
SAP, said it may have to post a fourth quarter loss of nearly $250 million.

Ex-Disney animator dead
Los Angeles: Former Disney animator Marc Davis, who created characters
like Cinderella, Bambi, Tinker Bell, Sleeping Beauty and the Cruella De Vil, and who
earned the name Ladies Man in Disney circles, is no more. He was 86.
Disney said, Mr Davis died at Glendale Memorial Hospital
following a stroke. He was known as the Ladies Man for his complex drawings of heroines
and villainesses.
