Krishna Murthy is election commissioner
New Delhi: T.S. Krishna Murthy, till now secretary
in the department of company affairs, is the new election commissioner. He will take the
place of G.V.G. Krishnamurthy, who retired on 30 September 1999.
Mr Murthy, an Indian Revenue Service
officer of the 1963 batch, will join M.S. Gill and J.M. Lyngdoh on the commission. The
election commissioners have a tenure of six years or up to the age of 65, whichever is
earlier.

Anil Bhalla
takes over as Chases India chief
Mumbai: Anil Bhalla has taken over as Chase Manhattan Bank's managing director and
country manager for India and South Asia in the place of David Baggs, who has been
seconded to HDFC Bank. Mr Bhalla has been with Chase Manhattan since 1979 and specialises
in investment banking and global capital markets. He
was with the US securities division of Chase Securities in New York since 1995.
