Premji continues to be richest Indian
Mumbai: Wipro chairman Azim Premji continues to be the richest Indian,
with a personal estimated wealth of Rs 40,904.14 crore. According to Business Standard,
the Zee group's Subhash Chandra is in second position, up from the eighth position he was
in August 1999, with personal wealth of Rs 28,850.58 crore. Mr Premjis net worth
grew 132 per cent in the last five months, and Mr Chandra's grew 1,196.75 per cent, the
paper said, updating its Business Standard Billionaires, published in August
1999. In the third position is N.R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys Technologies, with personal
wealth of Rs 13,056.85 crore. Other noted businessmen identified by the paper are Reliance
group chairman Dhirubhai Ambani (Rs 11,739.95 crore), NIIT's Shiv Nadar, Vijay Thadani and
Rajendra Pawar (together Rs 9,253.41 crore), Cipla's Y.K. Hamied (Rs 4,212.14 crore) and A
V Birla group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla (Rs 3,970.24 crore).
