Premji is IT man of the year
New Delhi: Azim Premji, chairman of Wipro Corporation, has been declared
the "IT man of the year" by computer magazine Dataquest. Mr Premji,
while accepting the award, said the information technology industry can transform the
wealthscape of the country. "IT has created more millionaires in the last five years
than all industries put together in the last fifty. Creation of a million IT jobs will
earn the country $20 billion in net foreign exchange revenues. This is three times our
trade account deficit," said Mr Premji.

Frankfurt: Heinrich Binder, chief executive of the beleagured
construction major Philipp Holzmann, is stepping down. Analysts say this is a clear
attempt to make him the scapegoat for the ills of the company, which has discovered losses
of nearly $1.26 billion on past property deals. Mr Binder was brought in by Deutsche Bank
two years ago to stem losses and push through a restructuring programme for the troubled
group. He is being credited with attempts to turn an old-fashioned company run on personal
preferences into a global construciton services major.
Konrad Heinrich, former head of Zublin, a medium-sized
construciton company, will replace Mr Binder.
