Born in Calcutta in 1923, he was one of the earliest Indians to get a degree from Harvard University. Cousin of Keshub Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, and father of Anand Mahindra, managing director of the company, Mr Harish Mahindra started his career with Mahindra & Mahindra, where he headed the marketing function. He was president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Indian Merchants Chamber, the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce, and the Maharashtra Economic Development Council. He was also involved in politics, and was at one time treasurer of the Bombay Pradesh Congress Committee.
