Ajit Nambiar is BPL chairman
Bangalore: Ajit Nambiar, son of BPL chairman T.P.G. Nambiar, is the new chairman and managing director of the company. Mr Ajit Nambiar, a BS in computer engineering from Boston University, has been with the company for 14 years. He said he is ready to take up the challenge. "My vision is to make BPL the number one brand in the country and also to be a global player."

T.P.G. Nambiar, who built BPL virtually from scratch into a multi-crore electronics and telecommunication giant, will continue to be a director of the company. He is currently chairman of many other group companies, and it is not known whether he will relinquish these positions.

Ashok Jain quits Schweppes, to set up e-venture
Mumbai: Ashok Jain, managing director of Schweppes Beverages, a division of Coca-Cola India following its acquisition of the softdrinks business of Cadbury Schweppes, has quit the company to launch an e-business firm. An advertising agency on the web is also part of the plan, Mr Jain said.

Mr Jain has been with the Cadbury group for the last 19 years. C.Y. Pal, chairman of Cadbury India, will be chairman of the board of the new company. Other promoters are Ashok Wadhwa, chairman of Ambit Corporate Finance, Rama Bijapurkar, Anirudha Malpani, Hiren Patel and Saurin Shah.

Chattopadhyay gets key position in HMR
Mumbai: Sanat Chattopadhyay, executive director (technical), Hoechst Marion Roussel (India), is being relocated to the US as vice-president of the Kansas city operations of the parent company. The Kansas city operations have a turnover of $3 billion and contribute 40 per cent of the company’s profits.

Mr Chattopadhyay will lead a team of directors and will report to Dan Maher, head of HMR's North American operations.

Mr Chattopadhyay joined the company as a management trainee in 1983.

Diwan on Datamatics board
Mumbai: M.G. Diwan, actuary and former chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation of India, is now a director on the board of software firm Datamatics. Mr Diwan will also act as an advisor to the company.
