Basu steps down from Star
Mumbai: Rathikant Basu, executive chairman of News Television India, the
Indian unit of Star TV, is relinquishing his post in the company. Mr Basu has now been
designated as non-executive chairman and will continue to draw his salary and perks till
his contract ends in October 2000.
Meanwhile, News
Corporation, which owns Star TV, announced that it is forming a new company in India,
Broadcast Worldwide, and Mr Basu will head that company.
Confirming the developments, a NewsCorp source said Mr
Peter Mukherjea, Star TVs current chief executive in India, will assume Mr
Basus duties and will be responsible for all Star TV activities in India.

Rahul Bajaj is chairman
of Mukand
Mumbai: Rahul Kumar Bajaj, chairman and managing director of Bajaj Auto,
has taken over as chairman of Mukand from Viren Shah, who has been appointed governor of
West Bengal governor. Mr Bajaj is at present vice-chairman of the company.
Mr Shah has resigned from all company boards.

Vasudeva Dempo dead
Mumbai: Noted industrialist and chairman of the Dempo group of companies,
Vasudeva Dempo, passed away on 28 November following a brief illness. He was 64. He was
the eldest son of Vasantrao Dempo, the founder of the Dempo group.
