B.V. Venkatesh leaves BFL Software
Bangalore: B.V. Venkatesh, president and chief executive officer of BFL
Software, is quitting the company with immediate effect. He said he would like to pass on
the baton to a younger person. Accordingly, R. Mohan, vice-president (international
operations) has been tipped to take over from him.
Mr
Venkatesh has been the first employee of BFL Software, when it was set up by the Bangur
group in 1992. The company was taken over by Barings India Investment with a 52 per cent
stake.

Sohoni is Pharmacia &
Upjohn MD
Mumbai: Venkatrao Sohoni has been appointed president and managing
director of Pharmacia & Upjohn India. Mr Sohoni was managing director of Novartis
India and left the company in November 1998 citing personal reasons.
Mr Sohoni takes over at Pharmacia & Upjohn on 1
January 2000, replacing Doug Herman who will be a senior director of the company with
worldwide responsibilities for training and management development.
Mr Sohoni will report to the Asia South Vice-President of
the company, Jai Shastry. Pharmacia & Upjohn India is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the
$7 billion Swedish-American drugs major.

New start-up by
Andreessen
Palo Alto: Marc Andreessen, who co-founded Netscape Communications and
has been chief technology officer of America Online, is setting up an Internet start-up
called Loudcloud.
Loudcloud will focus on providing technology and services
to web-based businesses. It will offer back-end technologies needed to create large,
sophisitcated electronic commerce website.

Robert Rubin joins
Citigroup
New York: Former US treasury secretary Robert Rubin has joined the
Citigroup at the top. He will help run the financial services of the banking company. Mr
Rubin will become chairman of the board's executive committee and part of a new
three-person office of the chairman. The others are Sandy Weill and John Reed.
Mr Rubin left the US treasury this summer after a
four-year stint as secretary.
