Three front-runners for UTI top post
Mumbai: Three executive directors of the Unit Trust of India, Basudeb Sen (in charge of investments, policy, planning and research), M.M. Kapur (in charge of Unit Scheme 1964) and K.G. Vassal (in charge of vigilance and administration) are front-runners for the position of executive trustee of the country's largest mutual fund. The post has been lying vacant since P.J. Nayak became chairman and managing director of UTI Bank.

The appointment of the executive trustee will be taken up only when Mr Nayak assumes office at the UTI Bank on 1 January 2000, after his present sabbatical.

Soros' expert quits
Interlaken, Switzerland: Arpad Pongracz, a senior fund manager of George Soros Fund Management in London, specialising in European emerging markets, is leaving the firm. Mr Pongracz joined Soros in 1997. He confirmed the news but refused to spell out the reason.

Soros, a name synonymous with the hedge fund industry as well as with a host of philanthropic endeavours, had earlier witnessed the exit of three senior managers in May 1999 to start their own venture.
