NatWest ousts CEO
London: National Westminster Bank has ousted its chief executive, Derek Wanless, in order to bolster its ability to resist Bank of Scotland's hostile $35.2 billion bid.

Mr Wanless, chief executive since 1992, was ousted after a five-hour board meeting of the bank on 6 October when non-executives decided that they could not defend the bank against Bank of Scotland's attacks with him still at the helm.

Sir David Rowland, chairman, will take on the job of Mr Wanless.
