CSIR advisory panel members
Mumbai: Habil Khorakiwala, chairman of Wockhardt, N.R. Narayana Murthy,
chairman of Infosys Technologies, and Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the AV Birla group
of companies, have been nominated to the reconstituted advisory board of the Council for
Scientific and Industrial Research.
The nominations
have been made by the prime minister in his capacity as president of CSIR.

Darbari Seth to quit
Tata Tea board
Calcutta: Darbari Seth, chairman emeritus of Tata Tea, has expressed his
desire to step down from the board. The company does not propose to fill in the vacancy
caused by Mr Seth's retirement at the annual general meeting.
Mr Seth, who has been at the helm of the company since
1981, is credited with transforming the erstwhile plantation company into India's largest
integrated tea company.

IITian gets top post in
Qualcomm
New York: Anil Kriplani, an engineering graduate from the Indian
Institute of Technology, has been appointed senior vice president of Fortune 500 company
Qualcomm, based in San Diego.
Mr Kripalani will lead Qualcomm's efforts to support
implementation of global third generation CDMA standard and will oversee strategy and
administration for the company's key international offices in Japan, South Korea and
China.
Mr Kripalani joined Qualcomm, a Nasdaq-listed company, in
1994. He had earlier spent some 18 years at AT&T Bell Laboratories.
