Market ends higher: Bank, pharma, FMCG outperform
03 September 2007
It
was a good close for markets as they ended in green with decent gains after opening
flat and trading lacklustre for major part of the day. The rise in our markets
was seen on the back of some strong cues from global peers. Good buying was seen
in bank, capital goods, pharma and realty stocks. Select oil & gas, auto and
IT stocks were under pressure.
Midcaps and smallcap stocks outperformed giving markets positive breadth.
NTPC was the star performer up over 7.5% followed by Dr Reddy''s, Cipla, Reliance Petro and ABB.
Sensex was up 103.45 points or 0.68% at 15422.05, and the Nifty up 10.75 points or 0.24% at 4474.75.
About 2101 shares have advanced, 849 shares declined, and 68 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,720.07 up 112 points or 1.7%.
