Good week but disappointing day: Mkts end in marginal red
22 June 2007
It was a good week but a disappointing day for the bourses wherein the last trading day of the week ended on a flat note but in negative territory after three strong day in row. The markets opened on quiet note today in line with its Asian peers and proceeded to trade with low volatility swinging to and fro from the flat line.
Good numbers from the inflation front couldnot cheer the markets on account of profit booking which was witnessed in the late trade. The inflation figure for the week ended June 9th was 57 week low at 4.28% versus 4.8%.
Consumer durable was only standout performer today which consistently traded with around 1% gain but shed some points in late trade. Banking stocks were also firm in the early trade but coulnot maintain the momentum and ended on flat note. However, the oil & gas, IT, metal and capital goods space was subdued since opening and dragged the markets most.
The Sensex ended down 31.88 points or 0.22% at 14467.36, and the Nifty shut shop down 15.35 points or 0.36% at 4252.05. On BSE about 1241 shares advanced, 1263 shares declined, and 86 shares were unchanged.
BSE Midcap declined 0.06 points and closed at 6,373.70 and Smallcap was up 16.64 points or 0.22% at 7,513.12.
BSE auto index ended up 8.96 points or 0.19% at 4805.03. MICO, Ashok Leyland, Hero Honda and Tube Investment were top gainers.
