Market ends higher: L&T, Rel Energy, BHEL surge

The markets ended in green for the third consecutive after a fairly choppy session. It opened sluggish but picked up momemtum immediately. It slipped post lunch but pulled back in the last hour of trade. Most of the Asian indices ended strong which supported the uptrend. Nifty closed above 4,250 and the Sensex flirted with 14,500 levels.

The broader markets also participated in the uptrend, smallcap index outperformed the frontline index.

Capital good stocks like L&T, BHEL were among the top gainers followed by power, oil marketing companies like Reliance Energy and banking stocks.

Among the losers in the midcap space were Yesterday's star Volats was down 7%, followed by Divi's Lab, Vardhman, Alstom Project, SpiceJet and Educomp are among the top midcap losers.

Sensex is up 87.29 points or 0.61% at 14499.24, and the Nifty up 18.75 points or 0.44% at 4267.4.

About 1405 shares have advanced, 1117 shares declined, and 80 shares are unchanged.
