The markets opened on very strong note today on the back of positive cues from Asian peers but could not maintain its opening gains and cracked steadily in the last one hour of trade to close quiet. IT and banking stocks were in limelight today but the consumer durable and FMCG stocks remained out of focus and traded on soft note for most part of the day today and ended in red.
Sensex ended up 26.29 points or 0.18% at 14570.75, and the Nifty up 1.25 points or 0.03% at 4297.05. About 1334 shares have advanced, 1177 shares declined, and 97 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,264.28 up 41.88 points or 0.67%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,473.87 up 60.84 points or 0.82%.
The BSE auto index closed up 17.92 points or 0.36% at 5030.20. TVS Motor, Exide Industries, MICO, Ashok Leyland and Cummins gained.
The BSE bankex ended up 75.29 points or 0.99% at 7682.64. Canara Bank, Oriental Bank, IOB, SBI and HDFC Bank closed in green.
