FMC head seeks end to ban on four commodities news
15 November 2007
Mumbai: Commodity market regulator Forward Markets Commission (FMC) is planning to move the consumer affairs ministry seeking to lift a ban on futures trade in four commodities.

"We will not wait for the Sen committee report as it has been delayed again and again. We are writing to the consumer affairs ministry this week," FMC chairman BC Khatua said.

The government had banned futures contracts in wheat, rice, tur and urad earlier this year on fears it would stoke inflation.

There were enough indications to show that there was no link between commodity futures trading and price increase, Khatua said.
