Hackers reportedly hit "Pokemon Go" login servers with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack much to the disappointment of gamers. The group, whose IP address was said to have been tracked to Saudi Arabia, posted a statement on its website saying, ''No one will be able to play this game till 'Pokemon Go' contact us on our website to teach them how to protect it.'' The message had been posted before the attack.

The hackers posted another statement after the attack had started urging the "Pokemon Go" staff to contact the collective to resolve the issue.

OurMine had shot to headlines after the group hacked social media accounts of prominent personalities, including Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google's CEO Sundar Pichai and Twitter's CEO Jack Dorsey, in a bid to expose their passwords and the poor security of their accounts.

The group uses the hack to advertise its ''security services.'' In an interaction with TechCrunch, a member of OurMine insisted that it was just promoting stronger security, claiming that if the group did not hack famous accounts someone else would. OurMine services cost from $30 to $5,000.

Meanwhile, as "Pokemon Go" expanded to more countries, several users were complaining  of bugs and glitches in the app. However, according to the app's official twitter page the server problems had been identified and that the team was working on fixing the bugs.

Pokemon Go access continued to be spotty through Sunday and users complained about the server outage.

According to commentators, OurMine was not the only group trying to knock the popular game offline - a group called Poodle Corp also claimed to have attacked Pokemon Go this weekend.

Even without the hackers, the online game had had several issues since its launch, and with 26 new countries added to the game this weekend, users would likely experience some organic problems. We reached out to Niantic Labs, the creators of Pokemon Go, about the outages and will update if we hear back.
