The rape incident in the capital has severely impacted the information technology enabled services (ITeS) and business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in Delhi-NCR over the last few days.
A random survey conducted by industry body Assocham's Social Development Foundation (ASDF) has found that productivity at the companies have gone down to the extent of 40 per cent.
The Delhi-NCR region boasts around 2,200 ITeS and BPO units with 2.5 lakh women workers. The last fortnight saw the companies register a significant decline in work productivity with one in three women employees working reduced hours after sunset or quitting jobs following the horrendous crime in Delhi, the survey said.
The Assocham survey has shown that the incident had impacted the productivity of women workforce not only in Delhi-NCR region but also across major cities such as Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahemdabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Dehradun.
The survey polled 2,500 women and around 82 per cent of the women respondents said they had started leaving early after the sunset.
Women who travel by buses, chartered buses, three-wheelers and the metro reported greater anxiety, according to the survey, and around 89 per cent who participated in the survey said they had started insisting on leaving offices on time, immediately after duty hours, given the atmosphere of insecurity, the survey said.
