India will seek US aid to track hate photos, videos

India will approach the United States for help in tracking the origins of offensive web content hosted on American servers and used to inflame Muslim sentiments and scare north-eastern people across India.
New Delhi will seek the help of the US Department of Homeland Security and other agencies to track specific content hosted on American servers after investigations by intermediaries like Google and Facebook pointed to Pakistan as being the main source of offensive images and videos (usually morphed or doctored) and hate text messages.
The government on Monday said social networking sites have said it was difficult for them to take action against those who uploaded the offensive content as they do not come under the jurisdiction of India.
The government has also warned that it would take legal action against those sites, including Twitter, which have refused cooperation in the crackdown against offensive content targeting people from the North-East.
