India Inc is among the worst paymasters in the IT segment, with mid-to-senior level staff drawing average salaries of $36,120 (about Rs18.5 lakh) per annum, which was less than a fourth of the IT pay package at globally top-paying Swiss companies.

According to a study titled 'World wide IT Salary 2011', Switzerland topped in IT sector salaries in the world with average IT pay packets of $167,890 (about Rs87 lakh) per annum.

The study, conducted by global recruitment service provider MyHiringClub.com, found India was at the seventh rank in the list of 10 worst IT paymasters globally.

The study was based on the average salaries earned by people with six and more years of experience for Indian and other companies.

The report, which compared the total annual cash compensation and total remuneration information for IT staff across over 6,000 companies in 41 different countries found that employers in western Europe were the best paymasters.

According to the study, compensation in developed countries focused more on variable factors, including bonus schemes, to attract staff, even as the emphasis remained on cash compensation in the lower-paying countries.

According to MyHiringClub.com CEO Rajesh Kumar, the impact of outsourcing and off-shoring on IT roles in North America and Western Europe helped explain the pattern of global pay. He said lower-level roles were being moved to regions where talent was cheaper.
