Apple expected to unveil iPad upgrade
02 Mar 2011
Apple sold more than 15 million iPads last year, the first time since its release. This was well beyond the company's expectations was borne out by the long wait for the iPods during the first few months of its introduction.
That is now history. Competition will now be hotting up with Motorola readying to release the Google Android-based Xoom, and HP trailing not too far behind with the WebOS-powered TouchPad, expected to be in the market this summer.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is working on making Windows fit into all matter-of-form factors as it moves to support ARM processors in the next version of the OS.
But, tomorrow, Apple is expected to detail the next major version of the iPad at an event for select invitees in San Francisco. Experts have drawn up a list of things that could be on offer alongside a successor to Apple's slate effort.
According to industry sources, there is a strong possibility that Apple may announce a follow-up to the iPad tomorrow.
They say there are already rumours of a product refresh from signs ranging from drying up of reseller supply chains to a number of purported parts showing up from overseas manufacturing facilities.
