The Maharashtra government has barred its staff from accessing Facebook.

Quoting an unnamed senior Mantralaya official as saying that the government decided to block the site as many employees were observed to be spending hours on the site, The Times of India reported that the move has not gone down well with Mantralaya staffers.

The employees say the administration was under a wrong impression that work was suffering due to access to Facebook.

The report quotes an unnamed employee as saying that employees log on to the site only during the lunch break or in case of a light workload on a particular day.

According to A B P Pandey, principal secretary, IT department, the internet connection was intended only for official use, the report said.
