Following in the footsteps of fellow Taiwanese rival Acer Computers' tie-up with Ferrari, ASUS Technology Pvt. Ltd., a part of the Taiwan-based ASUSTeK Computer, on Friday introduced two of its niche products in India by co-branding them with Italian luxury car brand Lamborghini.

These two products, the ASUS Lamborghini VX3 Notebook and the ASUS Lamborghini ZX1 PDA phone, are aimed at the ultra-premium segment in India, said Benson Lin, ASUS's general manager, Asia-Pacific, West Asia and Africa. Priced at  Rs200,000 and Rs47,000 respectively, they cannot be anything but so.

According to ASUS product manager Francis Kao, these limited edition products have been developed keeping in mind the aesthetics and performance of the Lamborghini race car. Therefore, both looks and features have been paid attention to. ''There is no compromise on style and no mediocrity on performance,'' Kao added.

The notebook is available in the signature colours of Lamborghini, yellow and black. It has a built-in high-resolution camera on top of the screen which complements a sapphire crystal panel of the Lamborghini car. This is further complemented by the titanium alloy hinge backbone.

It comes with a 12.1-inch wide screen and is based on Intel's next generation Penryn-based Core 2 Duo processor.  Manufactured using the 45-nanometer process, the VX3 performs with better performance and battery life than the current 65-nanometer models.

The ZX1 PDA phone has a Lamborghini chassis-inspired aerodynamic flow with high-defined and distinctive edges. The "beehive" textured air intake covers beside the front grille of the car sits stylishly on the top of the phone. The 9-way navigational key of the phone is inspired by the steering wheel of the car.

Additionally, it is 3.5G-enabled with a 2.8 inch touchscreen and comes equipped with Bluetooth and Global Positioning System (GPS). It is USB 2.0-compatible and is the first luxury PDA phone to run on the Windows Mobile operating system.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, general manager Lin said,''We're most pleased to be associated with a world class brand like Lamborghini and offer such exquisite products to the people. The consumer mindset and taste is rapidly changing in India and we're confident that we'll find the right kind of audience for these products in India."

Initially, ASUS products will be available in Delhi and Mumbai and soon launched in other metros and cities. ASUS products will be available through its channel partners and also through some retail chains. The company earns as much as 46 per cent of its annual revenue from this product range and plans to introduce four to five models in the Indian market in the near future.
