India's first IT finishing school on expansion mode news
28 November 2007

Chennai: The Mysore based Raman International Institute of Information Technology (RIIT) is looking out set up IT finishing school in five major Indian cities.

The institute is holding parleys with the Chandigarh administration for setting up an IT finishing school in Punjab.

"We are discussing with the state government to use the government school buildings for holding our classes," says S V Venkatesh, founder and CEO.

Finishing schools are supplementary training schools that attempts to make-up for deficiencies in the education system and offer certificate courses in executive excellence, targeting graduates from different fields, filling their soft skill gaps and groom them to industry expected standards.

While companies do conduct training programmes, the need for an IT finishing school has been felt as it would cut short the training time for the employers.

According to Venkatesh, the institute is looking out for joint venture partners for expansion in other cities. "We are not in favour of franchisee model as ensuring quality will be difficult," he explains. Presently the institute functions out of 30,000 sq ft campus in Mysore with a capacity to have 1,000 students. According to Venkatesh plans are there to expand the capacity constructing new building in the 5 acre land allotted by the Government of Karnataka.
