Chennai:
Search engine marketers are holding a meet called SearchCamp in Chennai on 6
and 7 October 2007. Organised
by the city-based Knowledge Foundation, the two-day event will have industry experts
discuss the power of search engines and the related services like search engine
advertising, optimisation and marketing. The
event, the first of its kind in India, will feature workshops, debates and keynotes
on the present state and evolution of search engine marketing. According
to research, nearly 50 per cent of the visitors to a website are through a search
engine and it is important for corporates to efficiently target this space for
marketing. According
to Ezhil Raja, CEO, Uptrend Hits, a Chennai-based search engine optimisation company,
Indian companies use search engine optimisation primarily for brand awareness.
While search advertising still dominates internationally, the concept is gaining
great momentum in India. Globally,
Google continues to lead search engine searches. "Advertising
on a search engine actually reaches the target audience unlike advertising on
a general website or print media", he adds. Raja
also stressed the need for a good website for a company before spending money
on internet advertising. SearchCamp
is expected to attract 150 participants. There will be panel discussions by industry
experts on issues like pay per click campaigns, the role of analytics and others.
