Chennai: With towns like Namakkal being hubs for transporters and increasing second hand two wheeler sales, eBay India Motors Pvt Ltd has decided focus on Tamil Nadu. The company owns the business-to-business portal that brings together institutional buyers (like vehicle dealers, brokers) and sellers (like vehicle financiers, fleet operators, logistics companies) of used vehicles - cars, two wheelers, trucks and others.

According to director Amit Bhartiya, the company''s marketing officials would intensify their search for dealers in second hand vehicles and persuade them to transact via eBay portal. "Out of 8000 dealers with us around 1000 are based in Tamil Nadu. 61 per cent of that comes from small towns like Tuticorin, Marthandam, Karaikudi and Pollachi."

Majority of the transactions done in Tamil Nadu are in two wheelers while trucks are also traded at regular basis. eBay Motors charges the seller something between 2-5 per cent of the sale value as its commission.

Speaking about the trading trend he said, over half of the dealers registered with eBay India Motors access the platform from cyber cafes. Fifty five per cent of them buy vehicles beyond city of operation with 20 per cent bidding for vehicles across states. The dealers in Andhra Pradesh are the ones who buy vehicles across the state in large numbers. And Delhi is the largest market for four wheelers followed by Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Kolkata.

"There is a close link between the primary market for vehicles (new vehicle sales) and the secondary market. Those makes which sell in large numbers in the primary market also comes up in large numbers in the secondary market," he added.
