23 March 2007
Mumbai: The Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hannover IT of Germany, an organisation promoting information technology there.

ESC executive director D K Sareen and Hannover IT managing director Fran Steinlein signed the MoU at CeBIT, the world's largest computer and IT fair.

Indian IT software and service firms would benefit from the MoU as it envisaged exchange of delegations, support for participation in trade fairs, conferences and other events which will foster the interaction between the IT communities of the two nations, Sareen said.

He said a buyer-seller-meet would be organized in Germany and an IT delegation from Hannover is expected to visit India later this year.

Hannover, with about 1,200 companies and 23,600 employees from the IT and ITES areas, is already one of the largest IT locations in Germany, Sareen said, adding, that. it also provides Indian companies access to the European market through the German-Indian Business Center (GIBC), which supports Indian enterprises in locating business activities in the Hannover region.

India also launched a major export offensive for its computer software, IT enabled services, electronic products and telecommunication equipments at the fair.

He said the MoU would also help foster cooperation between the rapidly expanding software and IT sector in India and the Hannover region, which has the potential to become a leading European hub of information and communications technology.
