20 February 2007

Mumbai: Software firm Teledata Informatics Ltd has invested $105 million to acquire a majority stake in Singapore-based eSys Technologies Pte. Ltd.

Teledata Informatics said it would benefit hugely from the strategic investment in the Singapore-based IT distribution major and PC maker, as there is a lot of synergy between the company and eSys, helping to accelerate the business levels.

"We were very impressed by the growth which eSys achieved in a short span of time. Their business model is robust, and we see our investment as an opportunity to partner in eSys' growth," said K Padmanabhan, managing director of the company.

Teledata expects to buy around 15,000 personal computers in 2007. eSys on its part has just commenced technology services and expects this integration with Teledata to jump-start its business.

Teledata Informatics is a $234 million software solutions and services company with global operations across 15 countries. Set up in 1990, the company has emerged as the global leader in its markets and has acquired a unique multinational status. The company is one of the fastest growing in India and is among the top 50 software services providers globally.

The promoter of eSys, Vikas Goel, would continue to hold 49 per cent in the company.

Information technology major IBM has adjudged eSys as one of the largest IT distribution companies in India, as Best Distribution Partner for its 'System x' range of products (IBM's x86 Intel processor-based servers for Windows and Linux).

eSys now manufactures more than 2 million PCs annually at its facilities in Singapore, India, US and the Middle East.

"We would like to utilise Mr. Goel's vision, global experience and acumen to further interests of Teledata group of companies," Padmanabhan added Meanwhile, eSys is setting up a PC manufacturing facility in Himachal Pradesh at an investment of Rs 250 crore. It would have an annual capacity of 1 million units.

The company has a facility in New Delhi, which will be gradually closed down and the entire production would shift to the Himachal unit.
