Google is the best employer to work for: Fortune surveynews
10 January 2007

Mumbai: Internet search giant Google is the best company to work for in America, according to a survey published in the Fortune magazine.

Google debuted at No. 1 in its first appearance in the list, leaving behind biotech giant Genetech, which topped the list last year, in the rankings published by Fortune.

With amenities like free gourmet food, free laundry facilities and onsite doctor, childcare, a college-like atmosphere and a host of perks and facilities like bring-your-dog-to-work policy, Google easily took the top spot.

Google's rival Yahoo! was ranked a poor 44th in the 10th list of `100 Best Companies to Work For' published by the magazine.

Google, Genentech and Network Appliance were the only Silicon Valley firms to make to the top 10, while Cisco Systems just missed at No. 11.

The list was compiled by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, based on a survey of over 1,05,000 employees in 446 companies.

Two-third of the total score came from the employee responses and the remaining one-third was achieved from the evaluation of the company.

The survey was based on an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the opinions of the company's employees.
