India currently has 25 million internet users, and the number is expected to grow to grow four-fold to 100 million by 2007-08, says a research report, The Power Shopper: IOAI E-commerce Report 2005-06, published by the Internet and Online Association of India.

Changing lifestyles and shopping habits coupled with superior options and selections have made this interactive medium most attractive to the e-generation. The opportunities to 'business' include advertising space to strengthen brand equity, lower infrastructure costs, unlimited shelf space and a global audience that can be catered to without the confines and restrictions of time zones and working hours.

Whilst the prevailing myth assumes a metro bias, the internet coupled with media consumption, bridges the "convergence of aspirations" and "the divide between country cousins and urban brats".

The report researches the shopping habits of a growing demographic that has embraced 'consumerism' in its e-form and to highlight a realisation amongst 'enterprise' that an online presence along with 'e' commerce and marketing models would go a long way in strengthening their economic goals.
