Bangalore:
A Nasscom report ranking third party ITeS (call centres and BPO) companies
for 2004-05 based on revenues earned in 2004-05, says WNS Global Services
is India's leading third party BPO service provider. The BPO arms of software
service exporters Wipro and HCL come in the second and third slot respectively.
However,
Nasscom's report, which has named the top 15 third-party ITeS providers in
the country does not consider captive units. Otherwise, GECIS, which was a
captive unit till the end of 2004, would have been the largest. Last year,
General Atlantic Partners (GAP) and Oak Hill Partners each took a 30 per cent
stake in GECIS, with GE retaining the balance 40 per cent. WNS's
revenues last fiscal were to the tune of $165 million against Wipro's $148
million. HCL placed fourth, is likely to cross the $100-million mark going
by the revenues attained in the previous three quarters while Daksh, taken
over by IBM, last year, is ranked fourth, a notch down compared to last year.
EXL
services has been ranked in the fifth spot while Mphasis' BPO, formerly Msource,
is in the sixth place. Intelenet Global is in the seventh place while ICICI
OneSource is in eighth place and GTL in the ninth. Progeon Infosys' BPO subsidiary
has been ranked in the 10th spot. The
Nasscom study includes the huge growth in employee base and number of companies
in the ITES sector in India. According
to the study at the end of fiscal 2005, around 3.48 lakh people were employed
in this business while the number of companies grew to 410 from 285 in the
previous fiscal. The
sector continued to be dominated by captive units (65 per cent). BPO work
offshored to India in 2004-05 was estimated at around $165 million, up 120
per cent from $75 million last fiscal while
the estimated value of work outsourced (by domestic clients) was $600 million,
double of the $300 million outsourced in the previous fiscal. Finance
and accounting and human resource BPOs were the fastest growing areas.
