New Delhi: EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in products, services, and solutions for information storage and management, today, announced an aggressive strategy to emerge as the storage market leader in the mid-tier Indian market.
As a part of a three-pronged strategy, EMC has announced several new affordable networked storage solutions, expanded its market reach by appointing 24 resellers as part of its 'velocity partner programme' (VPP) and announced the appointment of Redington India Limited as its regional distributor for India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
According to IDC India, there are over 1.9 million organisations that comprise the SME segment in India. This segment, which contributed to 54 per cent of the domestic IT spending in 2002, is growing faster than the enterprise segment. Though not a homogenous group, EMC estimates that the information needs of the SME segment is growing at more than 150 per cent annually, and these organisations require an affordable and resilient information infrastructure.
Elaborating on EMC India's mid-tier strategy, Manoj Chugh, president, EMC-India and SAARC, said, "Last year has been the most significant year for EMC in India as we delivered on every one of our commitments, announced in November last year, to the market. Today, as one of the top three storage vendors in India, we are once again leading the market by providing the functionality and reliability of our high-end heritage to mid- tier customers, with breakthrough affordability and simplicity. We now have the products, the partners and the penetration to achieve our mid tier strategy."
EMC also announced that since launching the velocity partner programme (VPP) in May 2004, 24 resellers from around India have joined the programme, and EMC has rolled out a number of programmes to train, equip and enable them to sell EMC solutions.
EMC also announced that Redington, a leading provider of IT products, logistics management and other services has been appointed as EMC's distributor for India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The new resellers work closely with Redington and EMC to provide customers in the region the industry's broadest and deepest portfolio of information storage solutions from EMC.
Speaking on EMC's progress in rolling out the velocity partner programme, Rajesh Janey, director, channel and aAlliances, EMC-India and SAARC said, "EMC recognises partners as key to our success in India, especially among mid tier customers.
