New Delhi: Business Software Alliance (), together with National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), hosted the Asia Tech Summit in New Delhi today, marking the first Asian derivative of BSA's Global Tech Summits.

The event brought together policymakers and software industry representatives from around the Asia Pacific region to examine issues and challenges facing governments as they work to develop information based economies and to consider how governments and industry can collaborate to promote the growth and reach of the IT sector for the benefit of society. India was recognised as a key driver in the IT arena.

Topics addressed included plans and challenges in developing a skilled IT workforce; how to create favourable conditions to encourage IT trade, domestic and foreign IT investment and tech transfer; and what governments were doing to promote e-commerce and e-government. S B Mookherjee, India's minister of state for commerce and industry, made the keynote presentation. The summit was attended by the who's who in the IT world of the Asian region.
