12 July 2003
Chennai: The US-based Brocade Communications Systems, a provider of infrastructure for storage area networks (SAN), and the National Informatics Centre (NIC), India's premier public IT organisation, will jointly set up a centre for excellence. This will enable NIC to keep pace with the rapid growth in data storage requirements.

The technical team at NIC will employ this lab to understand the inherent advantages of SAN and deploy this technology within the NICNET (satellite based nationwide computer communication network) domain. Both parties will jointly design, develop, and test the mechanisms, methods, and procedures that will achieve the deployment of SAN.
