Mumbai:
International Data Corporation (IDC), which researches
the information technology market, announced the 10 leading
IT services companies in the worldwide network consulting
and integration services market, ranked according to 2001
revenues.
According
to IDCs new research, Network consulting and
integration services: Year 2001 US and worldwide top 10
market share leaders, IBM Global Services maintained
its worldwide market-leading position with 17.7 per cent
of the $19.2-billion market. Rounding out the top five
worldwide leaders are:
- EDS:
7.9 per cent
- Compaq:
7.3 per cent
- Alcatel:
6.3 per cent
- Getronics:
5.6 per cent
In
a recent press release, IDC cautioned that current market
share positions reflected a snapshot in time, therefore
leading vendors should not become complacent.
Despite
the fact that many network consulting companies
particularly those focused on the service provider market
experienced a prolonged slowdown in demand, several
types of specialised services should see robust growth
during 2002 and 2003, says Christine Tenneson, senior
analyst for IDCs Network Support and Integration
Services research.
To
take advantage of the fastest-growing areas, network services
firms should try developing or expanding their capabilities
in security consulting and implementation, wireless consulting
and implementation, operations assessments, network optimisation
services, and convergence services, he adds.
In
reviewing the competitive landscape, IDC believes only
a handful of vendors currently possess the scope and capabilities
and resources necessary to deliver all of these services.
