Mumbai:
The worldwide XML server software market will continue
growing in the next five years, driven by a steady demand
for integration technologies.
The
International Data Corporation (IDC), which tracks the
information technology industry, says the XML server market
will touch $3.5 billion in revenues by 2006.
The
demand for integration technologies, IDC says, is one
the reasons behind the 163.8-per cent growth rate in the
XML server market from 2000 to 2001. Another reason is
the increase of XML functionality in the application and
integration server markets.
Vendors
that can commit to the development of XML-related solutions
will now be well positioned to take advantage of new opportunities
with customers as business conditions improve, says
Susan Funke, research manager for IDCs Java and
XML for e-business service. The fact that the market
grew so well in 2001, even with IT budget constraints,
is testament that the XML server market will be a strong
competitive landscape over the forecast period.
The
XML server market includes XML-enabled databases, native
XML database servers, XML application servers, and XML
content servers. IDC said XML-enabled databases and server
solutions would grow rapidly, resulting in the relational
database market becoming the dominant market for XML servers
by 2006.
IDC
also believes that XML database, application, and content
servers will become more important because of the functionality
they offer in integration for e-business platform adoption.
