Hyderabad:
After testing for over two months, the Visakhapatnam
Export Processing Zone (VEPZ) has introduced Ibase (Internet-based
approval system for exports), an online facility that
simplifies and shortens the duration taken for obtaining
various approvals and permissions required by export-oriented
units.
The online facility is expected to be implemented in all
the other six export processing zones in the country under
the ministry of commerce Kandla, Falta, Noida, Mumbai,
Chennai and Kochi by April 2002.
"The ministry of commerce has always wanted to create
an export-friendly environment and take steps to bring
in speed and transparency between the EOUs and the government.
In that effort, VEPZ was advised to commission a pilot
project to introduce this facility. The online facility
was developed by the Visakhapatnam-based Pyxis Technology
Solutions," says VEPZ development commissioner K
Ratnaprabha.
The new Ibase facility allows EPZ officers and other Central
and state government agencies like the customs, central
excise and warehousing access online applications filed
using Ibase. The software
provides for filed applications, to be processed by approving
agencies, and the approvals can be made online. The business
unit can also view the status of any pending application.
The software helps over 25 approvals processes online.
The system also provides for necessary security, and Pyxis
is developing the final release of Ibase, incorporating
the digital signature facility.
