The CBI today placed in court documents that showed corporate lobbyist and Vaishnavi Communication chief Niira Radia had hobnobbed with politicians, including DMK member of parliament Kanimozhi, and captains of industry to ensure A Raja retained the telecom portfolio after 2009 general elections.
The corporate lobbyist's proximity to politicians, corporate chiefs, and journalists, who had allegedly played active roles in the quest for lobbying for telecom portfolio, becomes clear through her own statements made before the investigating agency.
According to the CBI's charge sheet Radia discussed the permutation and combinations regarding the induction of Raja as telecom minister and cautioned him to stay clear of Reliance ADG supremo Anil Ambani.
She also had also talked with Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Bharti Airtel, regarding securing the cabinet berth for Raja. She had suggested that Kanimozhi play a proactive role as she had been informed by NDTV group editor Barkha Dutt and other journalists about confusion in DMK and the Congress over cabinet formation.
She told the CBI that she had had conversation with Kanimozhi after the results of the 2009 general elections were announced. She added that the talk was about general factionalism within DMK and the internal politics. She said she suggested to Kanimozhi that she take a more proactive role within the party and with her father for the sake of both, party unity and for her own career advancement.
In her statement recorded by CBI she said they also discussed the permutations and combinations about induction of A Raja as telecom minister.
