Delhi High court defers hearing in bail plea of top telecom executives to 26 April

The Delhi High court today deferred a hearing on the bail please of five business executives charged in the 2G scam.

The court will resume hearing in the matter on 26 April regarding bail to executives from Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (ADA) Group and the Indian joint ventures of Norway's Telenor and the UAE's Etisalat.

The executives approached the high court following a lower court order rejecting their bail applications yesterday.

The fallout from telecoms scandal which has cost the national exchequer around $39 billion, has led to some of the richest Indian businessmen seen as symbols of India's growing global clout, called in for questioning.

The bail applications were made by three officials of billionaire Anil Ambani's Reliance ADA Group, which included a group managing director, Gautam Doshi. Others who also made pleas for bail included Sanjay Chandra, managing director of Unitech , and Vinod Goenka, a director of Etisalat's India partner.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is expected to file a second chargesheet in the case against DMK-owned Kalaignar TV, Cineyug and Kursegaon Food & Vegetables on 25th April in the scam.

Former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura, Raja's former PS RK Chandolia, Unitech MD Sanjay Chandra, Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Balwa and Vinod Goenka, Reliance ADA group's Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair, Reliance Telecom, Unitech Wireless and Swan Telecom have been named in the chargesheet.
