Power bills in Karnataka to be slashed

Even though Karnataka's power bills are set to be reduced, India's IT capital, Bangalore, will continue to pay high rates, reports CNBC-TV18.

Power is all set to become cheaper in Karnataka. According to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission tariff plan for this year, unveiled on Monday, power rates will be down by an average of 15 paise per unit across the board — be it for industries, irrigation or domestic use.

The new rates will come into effect from November 1. This is the first time that power rates are actually being slashed and not hiked in the state.

K P Pandey, chairman, KERC says, "Because we had surplus money, we've passed it on to consumers."

But Bangaloreans will not benefit from the move as the tariffs remain unchanged in the Bangalore metropolitan area.
