Bangalore to have India's first energy museum

New Delhi: Bangalore will soon house the India's first museum on the power sector. Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL), a government of Karnataka undertaking, has scheduled work on the Light Museum and Energy Centre to commence with the foundation stone laying ceremony on May 8, 2006.

Union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy are scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the project jointly.

According to Bharat Lal Meena, chairman, KPTCL, "It is apt that the state which gave India its first hydroelectric power station should pay tribute to the country's power sector. The Museum honours India's history in the sector as much as it does the state's contributions in this area."

KPTCL also announced the setting up of HRD Centre, to be located on the same premises as Light Museum, to address the training and development needs of KPTCL employees. In addition, the centre will have a convention hall among other modern facilities.

The institution of the Light Museum, expected to become a national monument, also marks the beginning of the celebration of 100 years of power in the state. Located in Hoodi Village on Whitefield Road, the museum will come up on an 8-acre plot.
