New Indo-UK JV company to recruit patients for drug trials


Mumbai: IRL (ICRI Research (P) Ltd.), an associate of ICRI, world's largest clinical research institute and Europe's largest patient recruitment company for clinical trials for pharmaceutical industry and contract research organisations, the UK-based Synexus Clinical Research plc have tied-up to establish India's first patient-recruitment site management organisation.

This announcement was made in Mumbai by Shivraman Dugal, chairman and Vijay Moza, vice chairman, IRL, and Dr Ian Smith, managing director, Synexus Clinical Research plc.

According to an IRL press release, IRL-Synexus will establish dedicated investigator sites, to undertake phase II-phase IV global clinical trials on new drugs and "… will offer a chain of exclusive, fully owned GCP-compliant investigator sites across India, for fast and effective patient recruitment and to deliver reliable, high quality data on schedule

According to a McKinsey report, the global clinical trial outsourcing opportunity in India is estimated at around Rs5,000 crore by the year 2010. "There will be a requirement for approximately 50,000 clinical research professionals. Our association with Synexus will certainly help us tap the ever-growing global market," says Dugal.

"IRL-Synexus will work in all therapeutic areas where OPD-based studies can be undertaken and will source patients through internationally accepted recruitment methods.
